It was an honor to host Stoneham High, Chelmsford High, and Salem High #chemistry students for our ACS @ UML Chemistry Quiz Bowl! Way to pull out the win, Chelmsford Schools Science Department !! We hope everyone enjoyed their visit, and thanks for stopping by the Dean’s Office! Ross Lab UMass Lowell

Excited to share our latest work! Systematic alloying of post-transition metals into noble metals can controllably tune plasmon energies to higher energies. This is contrast to well-known effects of size, shape, or environment, all of which red-shift LSPRs chemrxiv.org/engage/chemrxi…

Importantly, alloying does not significantly damp the absorption. High extinction coefficients are maintained even at ~25% post-transition metal content. Lots of interesting alloying and intermetallic formation as well- read the paper (and SI)!

Excited to show you all some exciting catalysis and materials apps soon... The bulk of this was done by Maria over a few years and is an incredible piece of work we are quite proud of Maria Fonseca Guzman Melissa and Noah (looking for PhD next year!) were also a big part of the effort.

Very excited that our latest is live on Matter_CP! We show Au and Ag plasmonic nanoparticle absorption can be tuned to higher energies (blue and UV) by alloying post-transition metals (Sn, etc.) Ross Lab @UML_Sciences UMass Lowell Research authors.elsevier.com/a/1gX1j9Cyxd30…

New paper out! We describe a detailed protocol in STAR Protocols for synthesizing and characterizing Au-Sn alloy plasmonic nanoparticles. Congrats Anthony and all! star-protocols.cell.com/protocols/2799
