Am I the only person in America who would like to see us pay down our $37 trillion dollar debt? thehill.com/homenews/senat…

Okay #TaxTwitter, we're not going to get an IRS Commissioner we like unless we campaign for it. I nominate Mike Sylvester Mike Sylvester, CPA. #BoomerMikeforIRSCommissioner

I got an email from Ameren, my electric company telling me about my bill. The sub-heading was: Find out what appliances cost you the most. Guys, I already know, it was my air conditioner. I don't need to open that email.

PSA: "credit card payments" isn't really a business expense. You're probably paying legitimate business expenses, but "credit card payment" isn't really a line item that should be on your profit and loss statement. Just putting that out there, I'm going to want more info.

PSA: if you are sending an excel spreadsheet of numbers to your tax accountant, please send the excel spreadsheet instead of, or in addition to, the pdf of the numbers. Also, just an FYI - if your spreadsheet has only 10 columns and 29 rows, you do not need an 18 page pdf.

I just lied. Client is habitually late, and will not have business records to me on time (we're way past MY deadline, but 9/15 filing date.) Anyway, I'll be claiming Missouri disaster relief. She just asked me what the new deadline was. I told her it's 9/30. It's actually 11/3.

"I don't know why anyone would hire a tax professional these days when everything can be done automatically." On the other hand, I just brought a return down from a balance due of $59,000 to a refund of $6,000 so I think I earned my fee on that one.

I love when people insist that they can pay their taxes themselves and don't want to pay with a direct debit, then they contact me to make the payment for them because "they can't make the payment themselves."

PSA: Before you call your tax person to ask why you're getting a letter from a taxing authority to pay your taxes, please look to see if you actually paid the taxes first.

Just bragging on my husband a little bit. He's got a showing coming to Art Fusion on October 17th. If you're in St Louis, this is a cool gallery to check out. facebook.com/share/p/172Rq7… #MarkWitzling #MarkWitzlingArt

Hey #TaxTwitter, I have a weird problem. I have a deceased taxpayer and a balance due. We're not supposed to mail in a check anymore, but going online to pay - we can't seem to confirm the identity. Anybody have any suggestions for me?

Just got a phone call asking for a price quote. Person on the line said it was a very "simple" return so I quoted double my usual price. Let's be real, if the return is that "simple" you're not calling me.

#TaxTwitter Anybody else seeing Missouri sending out notices for unpaid taxes for 2024 because they didn't apply the 2023 refund to the estimates? I'm getting too many calls about this.

Creepiest voicemail ever. Just called a client at work and the answering machine said, "Thank you for calling XYZ company. We sometimes listen to your phone calls and sometimes we record them too." I didn't leave a message, I'll check for another number for him. Eeew!
