Thanks to everyone that attended Saturday's April Fool's Gala, and to @RainerHersch for creating such a fun event to raise funds for Help Musicians. Evelyn Glennie, Zeb Soanes, Earl Okin, James Oldfield and all the performers were brilliant, it was a great evening.

1. On April 1st I organised and performed an April Fool’s Day concert at Cadogan Hall. Over two hours of classical music-comedy entertainment to raise money for Help Musicians. The music consisted of comedy arrangements that I had either written or commissioned for orchestra

2...except for two, three-minute songs written by one of the guests and orchestrated by me. I now learn that the guest concerned is registered with the Performing Rights Society. At Cadogan Hall, if one PRS item is performed, however small, the whole programme is subject to

3...a charge of 4.8% of gross ticket sales + VAT. Accordingly, the PRS on those two songs amounts to £1,086.78. I have appealed this as grossly disproportionate – it is a direct loss to what we raised for Help Musicians. Even the artist themselves has said they don’t want

4...the money, and that it should go to the charity, but PRS has turned us down. When I think of all the donations of time, talent and services that went into this event, this makes me sick to the core. Shame on you PRS – who are you serving except yourselves?
