Sir Gawen Carew features a lot in my current research. He has plenty of room up top on this splendid memorial in Exeter Cathedral, while his nephew the second Sir Peter Carew, is squashed in below #MonumentsMonday

Covering a piece of buckram - fabric soaked in a sizing agent such as wheat-starch paste - when I was making an English gable hood. In the 16th century linen based buckram was also used for stiffening gowns #textiletuesday #tudortuesday

These little beauties pop up everywhere in my Devon garden. I think they’re Welsh poppies. Such a cheerful splash of colour, I let them seed where they will. #poppies #gardening

Through the Devon lanes to Cheriton Fitzpaine last evening — isn’t Devon beautiful? After a short break in April it was good to be back “on the boards’ as Lady K at a WI meeting. That’s 21 speaking engagements so far this year #devon #historytalks

St Albans Cathedral. Although it looks medieval, this painting of Offa, King of Mercia (757-796) is thought to have been created in the late 17th century. #wallpaintingswednesday

Elegant ironwork on a door at Church of All Saints, Winkleigh, Devon Are large hinges like these purely decorative or do they serve a purpose ? Eg do they keep the boards together as the wood shrinks with age? #AdoorableThursday #ironworkthursday
