I exit gasping for air. Allowing Rhona to suffocate, bound by the golden handcuffs of dreary Dunblane. Carving her path. Her own pre-raphaelite escape. Who needs air when you can live vicariously on intravenous Jacques Brel? -'The day that Billy Connolly saved my life.' #xponorth

Then, on ‘Billy Connolly day’, off the school bus; Wee Lizzie . We listened to the Big Yin’s album, snogged all the way through. Trying not to listen, not to laugh. No’ an easy thing. But snoggin’ to music; it’s what we do. 'The day that Billy Connolly saved my life.' #xponorth

Read the play 100 times that summer of #1974. The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black, Black Oil by John Mcgrath. Ian Crichton Smith went on aboot the clearances. Now this. A sign that something was happening. I was tuned in. -'The day that Billy Connolly saved my life.' #xponorth

1974. Scotland needs to think beyond Hadrian’s wall to be truly free. To take action, propelled by an inner Celtic force bigger than any geographical border. Or this collective willpower will never materialise into anything. 'The day that Billy Connolly saved my life.' #xponorth

What we need is a hero. And in 1974 we find one. Not a politician. Nor a warrior in the Rob Roy or Robert the Bruce tradition. But a leader of men. A William Wallace for the 20th century. If it wisnae for his wellies. -'The day that Billy Connolly saved my life.' #xponorth

I have a new guitar. An Ibanez Jumbo classic. My £40 hard earned quid from Hay’s in Stirling. And Lizzie on my arm. I can feel this surge of power. Purpose. Me and Scotland are going places wi’ our new leader. The big Yin for big things. 'The day Billy Connolly saved my life.'

Today's musing. Reading about Andrè Breton, Dada and the Surrealists. Do you think that X is new smoke-filled bars and clubs of Europe, where ideas and creative movements can thrive? Is X the true platform of the artist?
