i mean this in the nicest way possible but a lot of you guys’ reading comprehension and objective understanding of media will improve if you just…. stop projecting on characters 😭

For the first time since December 2000, 0% of California is abnormally dry. The view of the state from space today is truly remarkable.

Interesting view from space Wednesday afternoon. Recent rains have filled some the rivers that flow toward the Pacific. You can see the river water interacting with the Pacifc Ocean. Here's a view from the Sentinel 🛰️ Copernicus EU #remotesensing #cawx

Seriously. Decades ago, I was a latchkey kid; my folks weren't around much, so they made sure I could take care of myself. I was taught how to run a household and the basics of cooking when I was 4. It's not a gender thing; it's simple self-reliance. And it's easier to learn now.

You can tell when people don’t engage much with fiction because they expect the heroes of stories to be morally perfect and assume that all the views expressed in a story are the views of the writer. Demanding that all characters be unproblematic angels is the death of fiction.

Back in my day, writing a paper about something meant hours of research into a topic. Not asking chat GPT for everything. So it held a lot of merit.

When we say media illiteracy, we need to specify that the "literacy" we are losing includes the ability to: 1. recognize mediation 2. discern irony (tone, framing) 3. separate effect from "intention" All of these have to do with being able to read FORM.
