#HalfPint2019 #DYK until two years ago, Rochelle Dunlop was studying law and working as a waitress at Banana Jam Cafe. She shifted to brewing beer and this year has won Beer of the Year and Best Hoppy Beer for her Jungle Paradise IPA at the South African National Beer Awards!

#HalfPint2019 what’s the beef with 3D printing? The controversy around the printing of guns gets more attention than the good work that is happening within the sector

#HalfPint2019 #3DPrinting Eliud Kipchoge worked with Nike to combat the humidity and wet conditions that impacts marathon running. Working with Nike and using 3D printing, they were able to create the Nike Zoom Vaporfly Elite.

#HalfPint What’s needed for #BioPrinting? -Living or cultured cells -A scaffold (hydro gel) which guides the growth of the living cultured cells -Nutrient broth which contains everything the cells need -Bioreactor to mimic the perfect conditions for the growth of the cells

Second speaker is Riyad Domingo and it’s such a cool talk on 3D printing and all it’s great applications in wearables, clothing and food

#HalfPint2019 Eating meat will simply not be sustainability. Just because something is plant-based, doesn’t mean that it’s helpful. We’re now seeing the development of cultured or lab grown meat.

#HalfPint What we’re missing is a scaffold which is fine for burgers, but not for steak. We’re about 10years away from enjoying a piece of steak. Gelatin is now being used as a potential scaffold. #DYK Cultured meat uses <5% water when compared to traditional meat production
