Yesterday we swam at Spitchwick in defiance of the estate's ban on wild swimming. Once again, the actions of a wealthy Dartmoor landowner has highlighted the precarious nature of access to England's countryside, and the need for an English Right to Roam Act. 📸Emma Stoner

Catch the South West Peatland Partnership on 'The UK's National Parks with Caroline Quentin', Monday 9pm on Channel 4. We chatted all things tin-streaming, sphagnum and sundews on an area of lovely past peatland restoration on Dartmoor earlier this year.

Look at all that lovely water being held in the South West Peatland Partnership #peatland restoration pools! Drones are an incredibly useful tool for getting that wider catchment perspective! Images captured mid-September while we carried out our methane experiment.

Check out this thread about a very cool #PeatPaper that just happens to be a final 6 nominee for our 2023 #NobelPeatPrize. When we reviewed this paper we really liked the conceptual diagram showing changes in connectivity. #NobelPeatPeat prize winner will be announced on Nov 28th

What a really interesting and important paper! Restoration pools can become a methane source, but where is that carbon coming from? Promisingly, they show it's from mostly new carbon, demonstrating that restoration can be successful in preventing the release of old carbon! 👌

Incredible day out with lots of really useful discussion and great to see a little bit of everything Dartmoor has to offer, all without a drop of rain!

I hear the argument that we must temper these messages because we don't want people to despair and give up. But I'm not despairing, I'm not giving up. I'm pissed off & more determined to fight for a better world 🤷‍♂️ theguardian.com/environment/ar…
