Trump's election is a worrying day for family planning and reproductive rights. In this Center for Global Development blog we argue there is both a strong value for money case and a strong strategic case for the UK to step into the breach left by the US, and propose policy options for the UK: 👇

Trump is near certain to take an axe to family planning programs. These are likely very high ROI investments and UK aid should lean in cgdev.org/blog/trumps-el…

The Trump admin is likely to step back from support for sexual & reproductive health and rights (SRHR) globally. Katherine Klemperer 🇺🇦, Pete Baker & other experts argue that opens a space for the UK to step up and play a pivotal role for SRHR ⬇ bit.ly/4hioJdQ

Trump's decision to leave the WHO is a very sad day for global health. But we have to keep it in perspective, it's only 15% of WHO funding, only $600m a year, it can be replaced if others step up. The US' political support for global health security however, is irreplaceable.

This is shameful from the UK. And after existing commitments, eg to World Bank IDA, climate finance, and internal refugee costs, will anything be left? The UK just agreed to host the The Global Fund replenishment with south africa. Will it host and pledge very little? and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance?
