The company that wasn't - Thanks to Pat McGivern who pointed out the first article in this post about a new shipbuilding and dry dock company that was to setup in Warrenpoint. It was not one I had heard of before so I did a bit of research and discovered all was not as it seemed.

The "Invasion" of Warrenpoint June 1944 Last June was the 80th anniversary of the "invasion of Warrenpoint" - something my grandfather spoke of in passing from his days of being in the home guard. The "invasion" was of course an exercise as part of "Salute the Soldier Week"

In February 1929, a council meeting in the boardroom Warrenpoint took on a lease of life that lasted almost 48 hours. The newspaper cutting attached here will shed some light on the proceedings and allow the reader now (as then) to draw their own conclusions as to what happened.
