Yesterday we welcomed visitors from the area and from out of town. This family visited the museum as part of their Memorial Day weekend activities in Chicago. They were attracted to several works, including these from our permanent collection.

Today we commemorate, honor & reflect on the sacrifices of our fallen service members. Many of the works in our permanent collection and rotating exhibitions pay tribute, such as Leo McStravick’s "Falling Airman" (oil on canvas). Today we are open 10am-1pm.

James “Jim” C. Moore, 1948–2022. Jim served in the 13th Marine Regiment in Vietnam & was a strong supporter of veteran issues. He was a fixture at the museum, & his absence leaves a huge hole. Semper fidelis! For more about Jim, go to nvam.org/james-jim-c-mo…

We want to give a HUGE thank you to Bank of America community volunteers. They worked hard on Saturday to help in artwork preservation. Preservation is a less-than-glamorous side of museum activities, but it is vitally necessary.

The Marine Corps motto is Semper Fidelis, Latin for "always faithful." On this, the Marine Corps' birthday, it is customary to shout "Happy birthday, Marine!" and it is customary for the Marine to respond "Semper Fi!" Happy birthday, Marines!

A meaningful way to observe Veterans Day is to visit our museum--open 10am to 5pm on 11/11. You might want to take a 1pm tour with Vietnam War veteran & NVAM volunteer Ned Ricks. Free admission; everyone is welcome!
