This Noble False Widow (Steatoda nobilis) was the best find of the week.

This cracking Dialectica scalariella was a welcome garden addition. Not unexpected given the mass of Viper's Bugloss on the beach.

This male & female Red-veined Darter were on the rifle butts at Kingsdown early morning.

Today was all about Red Admirals - they were everywhere, plus a few Peacocks and the odd Painted Lady.

A mixed bag from Bockhill today: Spotted Fly, Sandwich Terns on the beach, Blackcap & a Brown Rat in the wood.

The Sea Aster Bee colony still thriving at Kingsdown, nesting in the splash-zone behind the sea wall.

Today was mainly about hirundines...these House Martins were a spectacular site around the Bockhill monument this morning.

Spoladea recurvalis was not the pyrale I was hoping to kick up this lunchtime on the beach, but I will take it.

Back where it all started. 30 years ago today a Radde’s Warbler flew out of these cliff top bushes in front of Ian Ball and myself. Tony Greenland was the only person who managed to see it. These were the days of running to a phone box to get the news out!

It was the start of a love/hate relationship with Bockhill and Kingsdown, a place I now call home and I very rarely go birding anywhere else. Over the years my personal favourites have been Blue-cheeked Bee-eater, Nutcracker, Red-flanked Bluetail, Fan-tailed Warbler,

a singing Little Bunting, every caudatus Long-tailed Tit, Corncrake, Alpine Accentor, Pallid Swift, Siberian Stonechat, Hume’s Warbler and Humpback Whale. I’m sure I’ve left a few out!

Birders have come and gone, thank you to everyone who has contributed their time, records and happy memories at this site. Thank you to all the regulars Jack,Phil, Nigel, Brendan, Gerald, Tony, Simon, Rob and Virginia.

We keep going despite all that happens around us and we have a laugh, occasionally! Dartford Warbler just down from this bush today. As we frequently say ‘Looks good tomorrow…..’
