You won’t believe this… But this project is back at the ZBA today… And Bonita Cummings is currently rambling making wild claims trying to make this now about civil rights. This is a 57-unit scattered site AFFORDABLE housing project.

That is true. 💯 In this case, this project is 57 units using low-income tax credits… which are federal $$$ to support low income housing. All of the 57 units will be at or below 60% AMI. This is the AFFORDABLE housing in all caps when it comes to income/rent levels.

This passed the ZBA today. All things considered… it was a bad look for Philadelphia City Councilmember Jay Young and the RCO chosen by CM Young, Bonita Cummings… to be against this project. This is a prime example of why the RCO/ZBA process needs to be looked at.

What does this mean? Philadelphia City Council is still not in agreement on Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker’s budget along with the details of the proposed $800 million bond offering for the H.O.M.E. plan and other issues. City Council could add another session in June.

Ending the 10-year tax abatement will go down as one of the most short-sighted decisions in Philadelphia history. It jumpstarted growth, filled vacant lots, and brought life back to forgotten blocks. Now we’re watching investment stall and construction dry up. Bring. It. Back.

Is this what democracy looks like? Philadelphia City Councilmember Jay Young AND City Council introduced and passed a resolution on the same day authorizing City Council to appeal a ZBA ruling for a Pennrose/PHA 57-unit low-income house tax credit project. This is shameful.

There is now only one option left: Mayor Cherelle L. Parker must veto this resolution. What message does it send to spend $800 million on housing… but then go use taxpayer $$$ to sue PHA for trying to build housing? You can’t say you’re solving the crisis while sabotaging solutions.
