My advice to medical students applying to neurosurgery: Find a program that provides a good amount of exposure to open vascular neurosurgery. Fewer clippings are done today and the cases that get passed on by the endovascular specialist are difficult to coil.

Found this today while cleaning my office. I had his book signed in 2009 in Chicago during a course. I am glad to have gotten a chance to meet him.

Breast cancer can be very aggressive in 40 year old females. This patient had metastatic spinal cord compression. Doing a thorough decompression can provide some quality of life. I still reference the Patchell Lancet paper from 2005 when deciding on the best treatment.
