Will be talking about peatland soil moisture dynamics tomorrow at AGU tomorrow! tldr: Carbon rich peat soils are at risk due fire and decomposition, but we can use remote sensing datasets to better understand the causes and risks.

Paper published today in AGU Advances! dx.doi.org/10.1029/2020AV…. We mapped drainage canals in tropical peat swamps by applying deep learning to 🛰️ images. Drained areas have much higher subsidence/CO2 emissions. Canal photos by CIFOR, Mongabay and me via @StanfordEarth
