The reasons for the reclamation—800 hectares worth—include coastal protection. We noted in our story how “future waves of reclamation are framed within a new, justifiable state narrative—to protect Singapore against rising sea levels and the effects of climate change”.

In COP28, a long-awaited “loss and damage” fund was just announced, to be managed by the World Bank. Designed to benefit nations most affected by climate change, it remains to be seen if Singapore will be a contributor, claimant, or both. theguardian.com/environment/20…
