A major milestone this week as we cut the ribbon on the new Royal College of Music Performance Laboratory. Thank you to all of the guests who shared this evening with us. In particular, to Tao Chang from our funder Arts and Humanities Research Council who spoke passionately about the power of the arts to innovate.

Dr Neta Spiro, RCM Reader in Performance Science, was invited to showcase her research at the Science Museum Love Lates event. ‘Brief Encounters’ used singing and conversation as forms of interaction to explore how our sense of connectedness is shaped by how we communicate.

Following on our Arts and Humanities Research Council Performance Laboratories upgrade, we've been hard at work over the last three weeks moving the smaller of our two Royal College of Music Labs to a new space in the heart of the building, doubling our capacity to study and train performance with the latest tech.

It’s World Maternal Mental Health Day, a topic close to my heart. Delighted that my new edited book on Music and Parental Mental Wellbeing will be published next month, covering lots of ways music can support parents’ mental health. Check it out here: global.oup.com/academic/produ…

A sad day for amateur musicians in Suffolk. Our local music festival is finishing after 100 years. 59% of entries this year had just one entry. Schools can’t afford transport or time off. Music lessons are now the preserve only of those who can afford them.
