The poor have become significantly less vulnerable to medical expenditure related shocks in the last 10 yrs in India. While hospitalization increased, the odds of households facing loss in consumption-status (due to the financial burden of hospitalization) decreased massively.

The last 10 years have been economically remarkable for the poorest 20% of Indian population. Here’s one important marker: the proportion of poorest households that owned a vehicle (motorcycle/scooter,car/jeep)- 2011-12: 6% 2022-23: 40% State-wise growth is even more fascinating!

It’s interesting what diff rounding can make, for eg the prob of extreme poor hh being selected w/o stratification on asset is 18/50k & w stratification it’s 15.48/43k. Is there a diff?? Now suppose we use another eg. 50k divided into 2k, 13k,35k, then your conclusion wd reverse!
