Happy Birthday to George Ellery Hale (b. June 29, 1868) — visionary founder of Mount Wilson Observatory and a giant of modern astronomy. His telescopes reshaped how we see the universe.

July 4 is Henrietta Swan Leavitt’s birthday. Though she worked at the Harvard College Observatory and never set foot on Mount Wilson, her discovery of the Cepheid period-luminosity relationship made our greatest astronomical breakthroughs possible.
