Giving teachers choice to choose a PD topic is a great way to get them engaged in the work. It’s important to not make it a free-for-all though. Choice should be rooted in student data with clear paths to improve student learning #EDLR5402

Interesting thought in replying to Taylor Miller’s DQ2. What comes first: communication or building trust? How do you build trust w/o communication and how do you communicate effectively w/o trust. Feels like a “chicken & egg” situation #EDLR5402

“One of the worst moves we can make is to require all staff members to attend the same PDL” Fred Ende doesn’t chase waterfalls and doesn’t hold back his thoughts on full staff PD #RethinkPD #EDLR5402

“There’s not enough time” is often an excuse I hear not to do something. As an educator, there will never be enough time. So we need to prioritize what’s important and utilize that time effectively #EDLR5402

Just finished Allison Rodman’s “Personalized Professional Learning”. Awesome read filled with specific, actionable steps. Love the idea of #FlexPD. Any #EDLR5402 peeps have experience with that PL structure?

“Your job is not to cover content, it is to cause learning” Allison Rodman People always need to come first, be that students or staff. Without considering their individual needs, learning will not happen, no matter how much content is covered #EDLR5402

When we witness a negative stereotype threatening someone, it’s up to all of us to call it out and bring awareness to its harmful effects #EDLR5402

Check your privilege. As someone who’s benefitted from every privilege imaginable, I have a responsibility to SPEAK UP to change a system that has given me advantages at the expense of others. Can’t just bury my head in the sand and pretend I “worked harder” #EDLR5402

My school is adopting a grading structure next year where we separate student behaviors (calling them habits of scholarship) from the academic grade. Anyone have any experience with this? Advice/thoughts? #EDLR5402 #RethinkGrading #EquitableGrading

Important point from M. Crockett’s article- a teacher’s content knowledge is so much more than just knowing content. It’s knowing how to make it comprehensible to students. Impossible to do unless you take the time to know who your students are #EDLR5402

We won’t be able to learn who our students are if they don’t feel safe to tell us and show us. As a school leader, we need to make sure ALL students feel safe to be themselves. Every single day. #EDLR542

Love this! And such an important thing to remember when it comes to assessing student understanding! edweek.org/teaching-learn…
