Usually, I am an Immunology Professor, but today I was the PHSUniversity School of Medicine's basketball coach. A wonderful time at a tournament that brought together students, staff, and faculty from all of Puerto Rico's medical schools.

Two things I hope my trainees take away from their time with me is to stay humble and driven, knowing that a career in science transcends personal accomplishments. That their effort should be driven by the conviction that knowledge has the power to change the world.

It took some time, but now we have the patent. I did this work between 2014-2018, while I was a PhD student at the UPR. I will be forever indebted with my mentor, Dr. Espino for trusting me from the beginning and helping me in my development as a scientist.

I am incredibly honored to share that I have received the 2024 NIH Director’s Award as part of the NIH COVID-19 Autopsy Team. This award was presented to us in recognition of the discovery of SARS-CoV-2 infection and persistence throughout the human body and brain at autopsy.
