Camponotus nuptial flight - these are the largest ants in Europe! Although they are not that easy to see - at least where I spend the summer they are mostly nocturnal in the summer

This fall Ronisha will be helping Lauren A. Kittell-Porter with our #NSFfunded research on Rhizaria. Ronisha is a BIOS | Arizona State University U.S. National Science Foundation #REU intern, and she will be joining our lab activities, including a cruise to Bermuda Atlantic Time-Series Study (BATS 🦇) onboard the #RVAtlanticExplorer. Welcome to the lab, Ronisha!

We are chairing a session on zooplankton ecology at the ASLO2025 in Charleston - and abstract submission just opened! We hope to see you there!

I would say scientists will dump dust in the ocean not really knowing the consequences and at a irrelevant scale. But let's keep burning fossil fuels, one day we will find the solution (or not)

Our #NSFREU student Ronisha joined the cruise, so she can experience first hand how to collect the samples she will be working with! Here she is helping Lauren A. Kittell-Porter preparing the gel cups for the sediment traps. The gel keeps the 3D of the particles and #rhizaria. #NSFfunded

Ronisha Rush U.S. National Science Foundation #REU and ASU School of Life Sciences PhD student Lauren A. Kittell-Porter on @RVAtlanticExplorer Ronisha & Lauren placing gel cups into the PITS trap systems. Gel helps preserve the 3D structure of individual particles, allowing for more accurate analysis of shape & composition. Leocadio Blanco-Bercial

MOCNESS sample processed, with not much (low production and export). Only remarkable thing was a doliolid bloom in the lower epipelagic - not bad. Rough weather and difficult operation, but success!! #NSFfunded
