This is really thought provoking. I’m not sure we have reached this point yet, but it isn’t far off. Gene therapy, curative medical devices, etc are increasing exponentially to the point where cost will become THE limiting factor for health. How do we handle that reality? 🤔

Attn junior surgeons, senior people have career setbacks too: Found out recently that I will not be promoted to exec committee after 6 years on the SAGES is in Tampa in 2026! board. Hard to get passed over after years of hard work for the society, but it happens!! Maybe next time.

This will also save you *so* much frustration and, most importantly, your patients will benefit too. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told “we don’t have that” about something I really NEEDED for the best patient outcome. Scrub out, go get said item=Win for the patient.

I laughed. Having spent a few years under Dr. Cooley I would pay 💰to see this and he was the most docile of that trio. They would have burned the hospital to the ground before they put up with the stuff we do. Honestly, I’m not sure if that’s a criticism of them or us!

Finally some sanity is being injected in this process again. We need MORE data points to make good decisions and minimize the risk of a couple of high stakes exams, not fewer and qualitative! 👏🏻

Let’s all be honest… who is the most likely to put the patient first? 1) physician 2) insurance company 3) private equity 4) Wall Street Now ask yourself which of those four are banned from owning hospitals and see if your answer is the same as the first question Questions?
