A Hollywood actress, a draper, a musician, and a clerk. What do they all have in common? They were all outsiders that shaped science. Hedy Lamarr is best known today for being a Hollywood actress, but she was also a brilliant inventor whose work guided technologies we now take

In 2016 Geoffrey Hinton said “we should stop training radiologists now" since AI would soon be better at their jobs. He was right: models have outperformed radiologists on benchmarks for ~a decade. Yet radiology jobs are at record highs, with an average salary of $520k. Why?

this is true from an economic standpoint, but also.... you don't need to pay hundreds of dollars to hear good music! check out your local music scene! best concerts i've ever been to were my friend's band playing in a basement at Temple University

i guess i'm an outlier but doing a PhD was the most fun i've ever had. basically got paid to do my hobby as a job for 5 years! actually i think it only makes sense to do it for enjoyment, since it isn't really a good financial move
