For health economists interested in physician decision making, Janet Currie's new NBER working paper includes a 22 page appendix with some of the best papers in this area, all in a tabular format. This will become indispensable to me.

Philip Zimbardo died at 91 on Mon legacy.com/us/obituaries/… Looks like a family written obit; here's one from the Times (London) thetimes.com/uk/obituaries/… I'm surprised that I don't see more press discussion. (Yet?) I had Psych 1 from him in spring 1971 just before "the experiment"

I’m thrilled that our paper on base-rate neglect (BRN) and on-the-job experience (w/ Christopher Chabris and Michelle N. Meyer) was just accepted at Management Science! TLDR: on-the-job experience with base-rate type problems mitigates, but does not eliminate, base-rate neglect. 1/7

Great postdoc opportunity (work from anywhere in the US) in quantitative decision sciences (plus great coverage of this weekend’s SJDM conference) 👇

Excited to share our experience reporting medically actionable genomic results to >5K MyCode participants! 1 in 30 had an actionable result (+ family members).. 90% didn't know their risk prior to genomic screening.. it's time to incorporate genomic screening into routine care!

#Reviewer2 used an LLM to generate their review of our manuscript—except for the part where they asked for several irrelevant papers, all mysteriously authored by the same person, to be cited. Thank you, Reviewer 1, whoever you are. Not all heroes wear capes.

Interesting cluster randomized trial of a goals of care conversation intervention (outcomes: patient choice of DNR, decisional regret), but I am…unimpressed by this:

At Geisinger we have created a new team to conduct rigorous evaluations of important health system initiatives, programs, and interventions. I'm one of the faculty co-directors of this group and I'm happy to say we have two new positions open! (1/2)

I'm very happy that Pedram Heydari, Michelle N. Meyer, and I have published our study on the internal inconsistencies in the choices that laypeople and medical clinicians make about rationing scarce treatments (such as ventilators and medications during the Covid pandemic).
