As long as we both keep making terrible decisions, the AI race is anyone's game

One thing we really have to grapple with: given the option some subset of people will always put on the whispering earring. Even still, we need to fight the urge to legislate AI use around our own sensibilities about what a life well lived looks like

The plan? We get China to associate our chips with opium, so they refuse our offer to help them globally roll out their AI.

The core challenge for AI governance isn't awareness or will, it's consensus. No government wants to lose control, but no one can agree on what the redline should be. Until we can get specific, calls for regulation like the one at the UN today will struggle to gain traction.

More than anything this post makes me imagine what it must have been like during the railroad boom. "We will build things never dreamed of in human history and remake the world as we know it. Oh you want to know about financing? Don't worry about it, we can figure it out later."
