Today at my library job: *5th grade girl*: “I just finished reading Little Women and I loved it! Do you have any other books like it?!?” *Me*: “have you read *Anne of Green Gables*?” *Her*: “no” *Me*: “girl, I am about to change your life”

In the last 48 hours I’ve had not one, but two abstracts accepted 🍾 I’m really excited to get to work on publishing some interesting research in media and political history 📚 👩🏻‍🎓

I don't plan to campaign here, but as I'm standing for Council election I've added authorisation to my profile just to be safe. If you live in South Yarra, vote for me! Authorised by M. Hopper, PO Box 352 South Yarra 3141

Watching a Good Morning America ABC News Live story on the closure of several American 7-Eleven stores and spotted this image of 7-Eleven in St Kilda, Australia 😂 I’ve had several meals at that SpudBAR!

With about a dozen other confused passengers on a Werribee-Frankston line train that from Flinders St, without announcement, randomly became a direct no-stops Flemington Racecourse service. Several prior announcements that it was a Frankston service.

We got off at Flemington Racecourse and spoke to a staff member who said this happens often. Lost 41 minutes on that round-trip. No Cranbourne, Pakenham, Sandringham lines from Flinders, next Frankston 18 minutes. All up 2h15m Werribee-South Yarra. Get it together Metro Trains.

I kept my X account all this time so I could share my first journal publication! It’s a feminist history journal, so Lilith was always high on my list of #publicationgoals. For their 2024 issue I reviewed Women and Whitlam edited by Michelle Arrow.

In 1990, Bob Hawke predicted that by 2010, girls would not face the barriers of the past and that being a woman would no longer be a barrier to good education and interesting jobs and professions. It would be the year that Australia elected its first woman Prime Minister.

If you are wondering when Labor’s preferences were last counted in #Macnamara or the previous seat, Melbourne Ports, the answer is - never. Labor has held Macnamara/Ports since 1906. In 1903 they were in the 2CP (Protectionists won). 1901 Protectionists won unopposed.

Does anyone understand why the preference count conducted by the AEC ✏️ in Melbourne last night was Greens-Liberal, given the 2022 results (even with redistributed booths) was Greens-Labor? Just seems like a colossal waste of everyone’s time.
