Biosecurity is really all we think about, so finally just decided to write down what we think actually needs to be built, from first principles. Systems level view. Not a one company thing...need lots of help. Bio and AGI are the existential threats. securingbiology.com

A biosecure nation (should just make a scorecard): 1) Conducts + translates its own R&D 2) Makes its own medicines (esp. critical ones) 3) Detects and defends citizens against biological threats 1-3 have to be done without reliance on other countries Which countries do this?

The observable universe is overrated. It's just the tiny speck of the universe our telescopes can see. According to Brian Greene, if the whole universe were scaled down to the size of earth, the observable universe would probably be much smaller than a grain of sand. Shit is big.

My visit to Ginkgo Bioworks showed a good example that biotech innovation and biosecurity go hand in hand. This way, we can deliver on innovative solutions while being ready to counteract emerging threats.

Definitions matter to help align resources. Biosecurity is the umbrella category. Like cybersecurity, biosecurity incorporates many capabilities. TLDR; we need an industry of builders in biosecurity as robust as the one we have in cybersecurity. bit.ly/4koK0E9

Some pain now or a lot of pain later... It's a bitter pill to swallow, but we shouldn't delay. Do it. Biotech independence is on par with AI supremacy as the most critical national security issue of this century. nytimes.com/2025/09/10/bus…

Really enjoyed being on the Accelerate Science Now podcast with Adeline DeYoung! Here's the part of the interview where I talk about why the US needs to lean into total lab automation + AI if we're going to compete with China in the long run. Full link to podcast below 👇

Def watch. PS - maintaining independence in genetic engineering and early biotech innovation = most critical national security issue of next decade

"The first step to ending our dependence on China is admitting we have a problem." Impt oped from Shyam Sankar Rare earth today... Biotech tomorrow... what will we say they stop sending antibiotics for our kids? Will only have ourselves to blame. Pls fix. wsj.com/opinion/jensen…

At NATO CBRN conference in London... reupping Biology as a Domain of Operations - matthewfoxmcknight.medium.com/biology-as-an-… Must remove bio and think about it differently, it's self-replicating (different threat).

In the era of massively expanding biological threats we need a CDC that resets and returns to its foundation as a warfighting organization against infectious disease - I write about this in First Breakfast firstbreakfast.com/p/the-cdc-amer…
