Last week we talked about “la carpeta” meaning folder and carpet and how Spanglish has helped many immigrants and Spanish-speakers survive in this country ☺️🙌🏽 My own family included!

With my students, we set the expectation that when they have a question, they’ll ask their neighbor and/or group FIRST and then la maestra. I’m trying to build their agency, self-efficacy, resourcefulness, but also not shut them down/not offer grace. Same w/my brothers!

Ain’t no tired like teacher tired.

LAWD. Sometimes it really takes them by surprise to be told “I start over every day” & “you get to try again today” & to be approached and treated as people who make mistakes but get to try again. It’s not easy, but it surely helps me leave work feeling more at peace

13 years ago I could barely speak English & cried daily because I wanted to go back to Mexico 🥺 Now I’m a college graduate, in grad school, speak 3 languages fluently, I’M A TEACHER & a momma. DANG, sí se PUEDE 💚🤍❤️

I just want one full day per week for lesson planning and collaborating. And 90 minutes per day to give students feedback and communicate with students and families. Then I’d be where I want to be as a teacher. Please and thank you.

While we are all concerned about Covid, I’d like to remind everyone that EVERY SINGLE DAY elementary school teachers come in contact with mystery fluids and have to ask, over and over, “Why is that wet?”
