We professional #comms souls often have to advise colleagues how, or even whether to, refute #misinformation. Try Brandolini’s law (see below) - equally handy for 100mph live interviews as for written rubbish/muddy mistakes: #StrategicComms #JustThink

Time spent on #Contingency planning is never a luxury. My alter ego over Gill at Lyric Communications insists that I stress that you must include your comms leads from day 1 and throughout. #crisisComms #contingencyPlannjng

Pondering what kind of conversations have been had within and with ITV’s #Communications Dept. And what the #contingency plans are in case of boycotts against advertisers. No doubting this is a political /commercial highwire act.

How quickly internal culture becomes external comms… and *this* is why internal communications matters! ‘Free money!’ Avanti West Coast bosses caught joking about UK government handouts theguardian.com/business/2024/…

It’s so refreshing to read a politician setting out the differences between different kinds of public #engagement. I also completely agree about the impacts of treating the public like children. You can’t control trust- by definition. Earning it requires a degree of surrender.

Real problems arise for institutions when big broadcasters then use inaccurate Telegraph articles as primary source without fact-checking. Comms people, watch for this. I’ve had to kindly request the binning of a major political package on BBCR4 Today, created entirely this way.

Leaders must communicate that it’s OK not to respond to things in real-time, that it’s OK to decline meeting requests, that it’s OK to turn off notifications, and that it’s OK to not be online all day. s.hbr.org/3R7nLr4

Communications directors- you know you need each other, but the public often don’t see this, ‘cos professionalism often dictates silence. Great bit of Twitter openness from Celia Richardson:

“Ultimately the response will depend on the seriousness of the allegations, but in most instances, it would be wholly appropriate for most campaigns, charities and journalists (particularly where sued individually) to adopt this approach. “ 👇 #SLAPP

When you compare successes, achievements, CVs or proposals, always remember this privilege. And ask what you might see if the compared lives were given equal access to it. Can you make that difference? #potential #growTalent

Careful! “The communications” get blamed for all kinds of decisions not going down well. Comms aren’t a magic wand that make people like stuff they wouldn’t otherwise. Only weak leaders expect magic! Re: Home Office guidance supposedly issued in 2008 advising police not to intervene in child grooming cases because victims had ‘made an informed choice about their sexual behaviour’? BBC Verify carried out extensive searches of HO guidance across that period & found no evidence
