The range of potential outcomes next week is very wide, but the likelihood of at least *some* shower/thunderstorm/high surf impacts, especially in SoCal, are rising. There is a small chance that the yet-to-develop storm could bring much heavier rain and strong winds, too. #CAwx

Wild outflow winds from thunderstorms along the crest of the Sierra are pretty dramatic on the radar right now! Some 35 mph gusts showing up off of Highway 88.

Evolving fire situation across northern California with a mixture of t-storms, fires, and fire-generated clouds. The biggest heat signature may be the #KellyFire (or #DiamondFire ?). #HeadFire quite active too, and the set up is similar to that of the #MckinneyFire last year...

This clip from this morning's Lookout video is about social dynamics of large fire management in the Klamath Mountains. Incident management is tough anywhere, but the Klamath's unique cultural connection to wildfire has befuddled Federal incident management teams over the years.

This morning's Lookout video reviews new intel for the many fires burning in NW California. We talk about why firefighters won't be able to stop most of the largest ones from spreading until they run out of fuel or rain puts them out. youtu.be/duDXfd8jXiA

Prescribed fire season is underway in the Willamette Valley! #GoodFire The main purpose of these burns is restoring white oak savannas, which are one of the most endangered ecosystems in the West, with only 2% remaining.

At approximately 9:30am today at Palisades Tahoe, an avalanche occurred on the Palisades side, specifically above the GS gully area of KT-22. Our Patrol and mountain operations teams are performing a search at this time. Both sides of our mountain will be closed for the day.

I did a double-take when I saw these stats, but to emphasize how remarkable this is: Redding, CA--a modest city in the far northern Sacramento Valley, no stranger to summer heat--broke every single high temperature record across a 1 to 21-day averaging period in the past month.

Video is from Boggs Copter 601 on the #RidgeFire. Priorities tonight are to hold the fire west of Bear Valley Rd, south of Brim Rd & at HWY 20 on the south side. The fire is still traveling NE. Firefighters are expecting a potential wind shift at sundown, coming from the north.
