London’s parents want their children to walk or cycle to school. We are already ahead of the rest of the UK in making this easier, funding 430 new School Streets - temporary walking and cycling zones outside schools - improving air quality and enabling better social distancing.

Oliver Wright in The Times and The Sunday Times reports that the UK Government is considering a carbon tax from Jan 2021 to replace the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. Something that Policy Exchange has called for: 1/3 thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/s…

It's a myth carbon taxes are necessarily regressive. Returning receipts to citizens in equal sums can make it progressive across income groups. Or we could use receipts to cut the most economically damaging taxes to boost growth and jobs. (US e.g. but see files.taxfoundation.org/20191105134952…)

Nor do carbon taxes have to make British industry less competitive. Earlier this year, Centre for Policy Studies published a paper on how to avoid this, using border adjustment mechanisms. cps.org.uk/files/reports/…

Importantly, border adjustment can nudge other countries to up their game on climate action. Do any governments want their exporters paying money to foreign treasuries they could otherwise have? No - so they'll adopt a carbon tax of their own, or clean up their economy, or both.

Carbon Taxes have worked everywhere they’ve been tried. Economists and scientists aren’t divided on this. It’s time for a carbon tax! | Exponents Magazine + Ben Ramanauskas exponentsmag.org/2019/09/11/its…

Sweden’s carbon tax provides us 2 lessons: 1. A well-designed carbon tax should cover a broad base of goods. 2. protecting international competitiveness of domestic industries is best addressed by a border adjustment. niskanencenter.org/what-can-we-le…

Yes I can see the irony in this Channel 4 Dispatches tweet but it is worth a watch. Only, however, if you plan to put what you learn into practice. Perhaps start by reducing the quality of the picture before you start streaming...
