Pret is opening on Leith Walk. It promotes a takeaway / throwaway culture in an area where we have so many local, independent cafes. Surely a Pret doesn't help to build community, or a 15-minute neighbourhood. Why did the planning committee agree to it?

SUVs are the second-largest cause of the global rise in emissions over the past decade – more than the entire aviation industry. Great campaign from Clean Cities (🦋 find us @cleancitiescampaign.org) highlighting the many dangers of the growing appetite for bigger cars 👇

Since the LTN was made permanent, I've become more and more interested in council sub committees. This small group, for example, will decide next month whether to keep the Western Harbour Ponds, or allow developers based in the Virgin Islands to build on a floodplain.

SUVs are clogging our cities, wasting fuel, and putting lives at risk. We need higher taxes and charges to be levied on these oversized cars if we want to create a safer, cleaner future. It's time to take action. gbnews.com/lifestyle/cars…

£67,877.41 of potential income was lost for 694 bus lane violations in 2023/4. Parking in the bus lane costs the taxpayer massively.

Engine idling is an offence of the Road Traffic Act because it produces avoidable toxins that contribute to lung disease, dementia, and cancer. Selfish drivers ignore the rules of the road and force the health impacts of their lifestyles onto others. £1000 fines would solve it.

Stop demolishing buildings in a climate emergency just to build student blocks that bring a high return to developers and investors rather than students or residents.

Simple zebra crossings are an easy and low-cost means of giving pedestrians priority. Sustrans latest report backs their wider use 👇 sustrans.org.uk/our-blog/news/… We now need UK Gov to give councils the power to make them commonplace.

Note for Edinburgh Council. More LTNs and quiet streets mean we don't always need to build (very expensive) cycle lanes on every road...

Compare what Paris has done to its city Hall Square to plans for George Street, Edinburgh. Four trees. Why do our council leaders and officers suffer from such a lack of imagination?

Edinburgh Festival Fringe⁩ despite Fringe promises that they’d replace these bins with ones with a hatch as in previous years they haven’t done it. Virtually zero recycling as many of the visitors don’t have English as first language no international recycling ♻️ symbols.
