Liam Bright I was a logics tutor for a while and this is a perfectly fine intro before getting into the formalization.
Liam Bright Yeah this stuff is deceptively tricky .. GPT 3.5 could get 650/800 on the SAT verbal but messed up both the inverse and contrapositive x.com/firasd/status/…
Liam Bright I think the thing about teaching it earlier is the need to formalise this sort of thing arises in the context of needing to teach it in relation to other logic concepts, i.e. unless you teach the whole logic module in high schools there's less reason to teach this specific bit.
Liam Bright This is not what you’re asking for, but historically the most important response to Moore might be Frankena’s paper which includes the wonderful line "Everything is what it is, and not another thing, unless it is another thing, and even then, it is what it is."
This piece by Ben Burgis going through the absurd contortions one person put themselves through to defend the ethnic cleansing of Gaza is good and worth reading. A little case study in how a person can forego their principles in favour of atrocity. open.substack.com/pub/benburgis/…
