When my kids whisper to one another, 9/10 it is bad…. The same is probably true of adults. If I am nervous someone is going to overhear me, why am I saying it? On the contrary, wisdom is always shouting aloud in Scripture.

So much of the Christian life is just hanging on. Yes, we should have a theology of flourishing, growing, riding the wave. But as I age and talk with other Christians, earnest but embattled, I'm learning that much of the Christian life is simply not giving up. Often,

It struck me in my bible reading today that Abraham was actually called to sacrifice both of his sons: sending away Ishmael, and laying Isaac on the altar. (Gen. 21:8-22:14). What a radical and sacrificial faith God calls us to!
