Having reviewed a few of these (and without giving too much away), I can say there are practice-changing results here. Worldwide practice in critical care will be changed by what is presented at #CCR24

Congratulations to Dr. Meredith McCormack on her well-deserved promotion to Professor of Medicine. Her clinical and research efforts have helped further define environmental drivers of obstructive lung disease morbidity and she has helped develop guidelines for PFT interpretation

Presented at #CCR24: In a randomized trial involving critically ill adults undergoing tracheal intubation, the incidence of hypoxemia was lower with preoxygenation with noninvasive ventilation than with an oxygen mask. Full PREOXI trial results: nej.md/45lC0xt

This is such an important study that I recorded a whole podcast episode about it Critical Care Time with my friend/cohost Cyrus Askin, MD, FACP & lead author Kevin Gibbs. I hope you’ll take a listen! It’s a great episode & we go further into the details. criticalcaretime.com/episodes/preox… 11/

Here's what I am going to do after the #PREOXItrial results: 1. Put the patient on BIPAP with 100% (using the same ventilator I will use after intubation). 2. Make the apnoea ventilation time short so mandatory ventilation kicks in when patient stops breathing after induction.
