Choose optimism Around the age of twenty-two I realized that my worldview had been deeply imbued with pessimism and cynicism. It was the culture I grew up in. A hostility to new ideas, to anything that strays from the norm. An assumption that if things can go wrong, they will go

there is a massive amount of unexplored space for tools that interoperate with .md and .canvas files you create in Obsidian we added the "tools" category to Gems of the Year last year (Quartz by Jacky won), I hope to see more entries in this category for 2024

we've been tracking Sync uptime metrics behind the scenes, but they're now public — currently 99.991% uptime across servers ...that said, if a Sync server does go down, your local files are always there for you 🥰

Big improvement for Obsidian startup time on mobile. My personal vault with 15k notes went from ~5s to 1s (cold start) on an iPhone 15 Pro. Trying to get it down to 500ms or less.

PSA for Obsidian plugin devs: remember to minify your plugin! This can reduce the load time of your plugin by 50-90%. Make sure your build script for main.js includes minification. Your users will thank you ☺️

I've finally been nerd sniped into turning my Obsidian web clipper into a proper browser extension works pretty well already

there are two kinds of tools: the ones that force you to adapt to how they work, at the cost of limiting what you can do the ones that adapt to the way you work, at the cost of letting you shoot yourself in the foot

making progress on the Obsidian web clipper you can create templates that match automatically by URL, and extract metadata from the page as properties

an idea I've been playing with for the Obsidian clipper — interpret the page in natural language and turn the results into structured data

Another huge improvement to performance. You should see roughly 50% to 95% reduction in startup time when switching from Obsidian 1.6 to 1.7
