Honestly, all respect to the Paralympics, but this is why I just cannot watch it. If I ever want to hear non-disabled people philosophise about disability, I will just go to a Walkabout at 1am and ask a man’s opinion on my wheelchair.

When we're thinking about approaches to absence, especially for illness, it's worth considering whether we would use the same approaches with adults and if not, why not. Important to remember that children are much more prone to catching bugs than adults are.
