We are in Altadena at the #EatonFire. Wind are fairly light right now. Firefighters are hoping to use that to their advantage overnight tonight to get the upper hand. Some blocks all the homes are gone. Others it seems the fire burned randomly.

Driving southbound on Lake Ave from E Mendocino St toward E Woodbury Rd. Northern Altadena was much more heavily impacted than the southern end, especially the residential areas. very few homes still standing north of Woodbury but there some. #EatonFire

Altadena’s business corridor along Lake Ave has been heavily impacted. Eliot Middle School looks like a total loss. The Aldi grocery store is gone. Firefighters working on new start fires to save as many homes & buildings as they can. These are already lost causes. #EatonFire

“Whack a mole” is the name of the game tonight. Eliot Middle School fire is starting to flare so they’re going to knock it back down to try to save whatever they can around it. Ember cast has been a real problem with the winds: 2-3 mile spread during the worst of it. #EatonFire

We are back inside the #EatonFire today in Altadena. The focus is on putting out hot spots to keep embers from igniting remaining homes & businesses if the winds pick up in the flats later today. Aircraft have already been grounded along the ridge tops here because of high winds.

In any tough situation, you always want to look for the helpers. Today we found some in the #EatonFire as we were following a task force from Santa Rosa Fire Department These are stories of hope.

Red Flag warnings continue in the area of the #EatonFire until 6pm tonight. Today crews are still focused on putting out any hot spots that could reignite and damage homes that are still standing. We found a crew from Oakland Fire Department (CA) doing just that in the NW part of Altadena.

The The California Military Department is now here around the perimeter of the evacuation zone at the #EatonFire. This is at Lake Ave. There is a curfew for the evacuation zones from 6pm-6am to protect from looters. Same deployment happened after the Santa Rosa fires in 2017 to secure the areas there.

We were able to find more helpers today in the #EatonFires as we are hearing stories from those who stayed behind. Neighbors helping neighbors, often times people they didn’t even know.

More than a dozen Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department units heading toward the new evacuation zone at the #PalisadesFire. Santa Ana winds have calmed and now more onshore winds are pushing the Palisades Fire inland toward Encino and Brentwood.

Painting the town red with Phos-Chek up on Mandeville Canyon earlier this afternoon. The winds were pushing the #PalisadesFire down toward the homes on the west side of the road. Tons of engine crews were in position for structure defense. Lots of water drops too.

Nighttime air drops near Mandeville Canyon on the #PalisadesFire. I’ve never seen anything like it. The skill and precision needed to do this during the day is one thing. At night?! Next level. Also seeing dozers and hand crews working in the same area to cut lines.
