We are really excited to offer this 3rd season of Ka Mahina Project 🌙 Hina Circles, these intentional group talk stories are indigenous therapy sessions to heal as lāhui with a focus on discussing our moʻolelo & the kupuna ʻike of Hina 🌙

Our bodies are 80% water & just like the ocean’s tides, we are affected by the changing moon phases, that’s science Learning how Kānaka created daily ritual to flow in rhythm with the moon, that’s Kupuna ʻike, ancestoral knowledge Doing so with lāhui, in community, is special

Hina is not just our akua, Goddess of the Moon. Before she ascended on her 🌈 into the sky she was a Kānaka. We see the name Hina in our Mo’okū’auhau all over Polynesia. She was an actual navigator & sailed with her brother Ru (Kū). We have a true genealogical connection to her

So we can acknowledge Hina as our grandmother, as Kānaka. Her face changes each day over a 30 day cycle & we have a name & mana’o behind each phase. Many days are tough but we know we have lessons to learn & we can get through them together as lāhui. Diving into mo’olelo is key

So is acknowledging the importance of mental healthcare, especially as an indigenous population under military occupation, suffering from the daily impacts of colonialism & multi-generational trauma. We need to heal through the creation of culturally grounded safe spaces
