While my recent book is *not* about Turkey, it contains a few pages of rumination. It can also serve as a brief teaser for a book on Turkey I (finally, after opining War on the Rocks for almost a decade) will finalize next year, tentatively titled “Quest for Greatness.”

Publication day 📚Check out my new paper with Victor Asal in the JournalofGlobSecStud 👇

6+ years ago, I made a simple argument War on the Rocks: While Turkey experts systematically belittle, ignore & make fun of Devlet Bahçeli (Devletto Bahchiavelli?), he is *something else* & a key player (Reis-maker?) whom we, collectively, barely understand. warontherocks.com/2018/07/the-ye…

My new article, 'In Search of the Unicorn:The Magical, the Imaginary and the Spatio-Temporal Ordering of Knowledge', now published in Millennium Journal journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…

It's publication week! Influence Without Arms: The New Logic of Deterrence is now available with Cambridge University Press - Politics: cambridge.org/9781108824071. The book examines the role of nuclear technology in international relations.

This report concludes a terrific academic journey, while paving way for many interesting ones with my brilliant colleagues, Serhat Güvenç, Çağlar Kurç, and Sıtkı Egeli. Kudos to Tom W and all IISS News Center for Foreign Policy and Peace Research teams for their support, efforts and team spirit.

Over the years, War on the Rocks has published a great deal on the Syrian Civil War. Many of those articles and podcasts are listed here, organized by category, for those of you seeking to learn more about this conflict that burst back onto the front page warontherocks.com/understanding-…

As a student of strategy, the dream show: The Peloponnesian War, written by Taylor Sheridan, Paramount+. First season ends with the deaths of Brasidas & Cleon in battle. Post-credit scenes will introduce Alcibiades & his plans for Argos. Sheridan plays a muscled-up Thucydides

Excellent list, as always. My contribution (to the list of recommendations) for this holiday season: 1) Oceans Rise Empires Fall: Why Geopolitics Hastens Climate Catastrophe by Gerard Toal 2) On Wars, by Michael Mann
