Me: I see you wrote 6+8=14, how did you figure that out? S: I added. Me: What did you add? S: The 6 and 8. Me: How did you add them? S: I put them together. Me: What did you do first? S: I took 2 from the 6, put it with the 8 to make 10, then 10 and the leftover 4 is 14.

Yes! Led to great discussions on binary system, importance of prime numbers and why the halve/ double strategy works! Thank you Sunil Singh and Chris Brownell!! #mathrecess #mathgarden

I am excited about this - this team has made lessons that integrate all areas of maths (including data) and have students working on real problems. So important and needed ... I am advising them as I believe in their work.

Just participated in a great game of Albert's Insomnia via Zoom! So great to see the third graders' expressions as they thought through the mathematical possibilities! #distancelearning #playmath

First #numbertalk of the year! This gave me so much information on Ss know & what similarities and differences they are noticing about each other’s work (in red). This is just the beginning, getting them talking is significant ✨🙌🏽 #cgimath #numbersense Joseph Espinosa

Pam Harris If you are not making mistakes, then you are not doing mathematics, probably some synthetic polymer of it. If you are not making mistakes, you probably are not stuck or confused as well--hallmarks of the history of mathematics.

My favorite definition of mathematics so far - from the great Bertrand Russell in 1901: "The subject in which we never know what we are talking about, nor whether what we are saying is true."

Our teacher stopped a student in the hall when it looked like something was bothering him.  She asked what was wrong.  He said, “nothing” and kept walking.  Later, he sent her a text: “Hey thanks for asking if i was ok today it means alot actually” We gotta keep connecting!
