Excellent customer service today from The AA and Lloyds Banking Group. First ever breakdown which required recovery with 2 children in the car. From 1st phone call to getting home, it was a smooth, organised operation making a stressful situation less worrying. Thank you.

We are a small, rural club in North Devon, based in a town of approximately 2,000 people. We have 100 children playing in our club, the vast majority of whom are boys. All our volunteers are working incredibly hard to promote girls’ football and, to be honest…2/n

…it’s an uphill struggle. We have 2 very small girls’ squads at u12 and u14 with 11 members apiece. In comparison, we have waiting lists for all our boys/‘mixed’ teams. We entered our u14 girls into Devon County Cup for the first time this season to give them a wider…3/n

football experience beyond the local league. Frustratingly, we had to withdraw from the first round as we only have a squad of 11 and two players had to withdraw owing to concussion and a third owing to damaged toes, leaving us with only 8 players. 4/n

The FA fined us for withdrawing ‘without sufficient reason’. We responded with an appeal, not only citing concussion as a sufficient reason but also explaining that we felt discriminated against as a small club without enough girls to field a team. 5/n

A larger club would simply have replaced the injured players. The appeal was subsequently turned down and we were fined £50 plus £25 appeal fee. As a small club, we just can’t afford this kind of sanction so we won’t be appealing any further. 6/n

The FA MUST extend practical, empathetic, practical support for girls’ football right down to grassroots, basking in the reflected glory of the Lionesses is not enough. ENDS

And last thank you of the day to #HerGameToo Brentford FC who have not only offered to pay the FA fine but also send us some equipment for our girls' teams. They are also supporting Chulmleigh Girls by following up with the FA on our behalf. We are well and truly feeling the football love!

Great to read the incredible Lucy Bronze MBE believes the FA’s investment at elite level has allowed the Lionesses to close the gap on the USA. Now let's see some real, empathetic support at girls' grassroots level; our recent experience with Devon FA shows there's a way to go.
