Question is how much authoritarian/illiberalism will the Supreme Court tolerate? Answer is slightly less than the autocrats want but far more than the Court can contain. This game the Court's majority seems to be playing won't end in their favor. Or ours.

Wait, so voucher can be used for tuition at private Christian school but not for homeschooling witchcraft essentials? Discrimination!

I mean, really, what about parental rights to choose witchcraft for their children's education? Or live animals for a farm to table program? Surely these kids have a constitutional right to learn, on taxpayers dime, how to load and operate a weapon in a home gun safety course?

No matter what they call it--a voucher, tax credit, or scholarship--it's legalized corruption plain and simple.

If tech, privatization, and corruption don't finish off public education, the resulting ignorance and selfish amorality will surely do the trick.

SCOTUS majority allows certain religious beliefs to dictate public school curriculum. Chaos & censorship will ensue. Parental rights on steroids trumping children's rights to education reflects selfish, private goods notion of schooling key to its privatization.

They want you to distrust public schools and misperceive education as only a private, individual good so that they can privatize it and subjugate the people who can't afford to escape it. Mahmoud v. Taylor fast tracks that agenda.

This is all true and unjust. And social mobility is the gateway drug, not the cure.

Legislatures and executives have long failed to fulfill and protect the education rights of schoolchildren but no institution has done more with as much authority to subvert those rights than the U.S. Supreme Court.

Blue states should make democracy the prevailing theme of the upcoming school year. Not just civics but democracy-reinforcing lessons & experiences integrated throughout the curriculum. Boldly educate through the crisis, don't leave children in despair, teach a better way!
