In 1951, Frank Lloyd Wright was asked to design a home on Venice’s Grand Canal. After tragedy struck, the design was updated to be a memorial and student library. The city rejected it—too modern for the old world.

That one hits like a whisper through fog. It’s only a handful of words, but it folds a whole universe into itself—perfect tension between the real and the unreal. It feels like a design ethos too: hinting at more beneath the surface, making the familiar feel strange again.
