Calling Lai "pro-independence" is inaccurate. All candidates are "pro-status quo." The difference is in the approaches. Taiwan people just want to live their lives and not getting bombed, and now they have resoundingly chosen a leader who believe the best way is to stay tough.

For the record, Lai Ching-te’s current stance is no longer “pro-independence” so please stop using this phrase to describe him. There are more accurate phrases available out there to capture his stance. #Taiwanelections2024

Over just 30 years, transitioning from dictatorship, democracy has become integral to #Taiwan's identity. Citizens learn, engage, sympathise, deliberate, & compromise. #Democracy needs ongoing practice, & Taiwan's journey shows how this, in turn, nurtures & evolves a society.
