We've talked a lot recently about why Black people do not trust the Police. This Wednesday at 9pm I'm joined via @TwitterSpaces by Stafford Scott, African, Caribbean and Asian Lawyers For Justice, @chantellelunt and you for a frank discussion on where we go from here. Tell a friend.

Ironic, given the current national conversation, that I'm reading 'Where are you really from' by Tim Brannigan . I highly recommend this memoir, which explores life as a young black boy (with an extraordinary family story) growing up in Northern Ireland during the troubles.

It was my 12 month sober anniversary a few weeks ago, a lot of people have asked for tips on how I did it but, for me, the more important question was why I did it. There aren't enough characters to do it justice so I wrote a blog ⬇️ thistriggeredmillenial.home.blog/2023/01/03/one…

This interview with Jack Monroe really resonated with me. I'm 1 year sober and a former Looked After child. I recently wrote about my sober journey and have been supporting people (who read my blog & felt seen) since. We need more open & honest conversations about addiction.

Have only just come across this by Roxy Legane A heartbreakingly accurate account of the criminal (mis)justice system's failure of black men and boys - often churned through the system under joint enterprise laws which deem them guilty by association. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I'll never forget the Police Fed rep who (when I came back into work after having a breakdown) told me that the Police would become a Force against me, if I spoke out. He wasn't wrong. It wasn't just the police either...

🧵 I talk about the institutional racism of the police force in a lot of rooms - in the hope of motivating people into action or, at the very least, awareness of the experiences of black people. This doesn't always make me popular and people don't always want to listen or act.

🧵 Yesterday, our community came together to show what the Liverpool City Region is all about. A region built from migration (including enforced migration), rich in a culture that has always been diverse. We have the world in one city, and we are bloody proud of it!

Well, this is Handmaid's Tale level disturbing: "A school (in Merseyside) has been accused of “degrading” and “inhumane” treatment of female pupils after they were made to line up so that male teachers could inspect the length of their skirts." theguardian.com/education/2023…
