I believe more families would transport their children on three wheels if there would be better and safe parking possibilities for family cargo bikes. Better parking should be arranged at residential areas, offices and at metro/train stations. #citiesforkids

Public spaces with interesting details make journeys more enjoyable and might encourage children and families to additional trips or to spend more time outdoors. #citiesforkids #Finlandia

Every city should aim at creating neighbourhoods, where all you need can be reached within 15 minutes by foot or bike: grocery stores, shops, health facilities, cultural venues and this ⬇️ #citiesforkids #15minutecity

In cities where children can move around independently they are able to take advantage of what the city has to offer. This should be seen as an economical, social and cultural benefit. #citiesforkids

Loved this post about what happens when you ask 11 year olds to design a community? - pedestrian-friendly streets, a restaurant with green walls, community-focused public realm, gardens with space for food growing and relaxation, and a plant nursery. wearetown.co.uk/built-with-for…

Sometimes I wonder how technology will affect environmental literacy of children. Will technology increase their capabilities to get around and function in the city? Or will technology have the opposite effect? #citiesforkids

Advantages of growing up in a (child friendly) city: - Your friends from kindergarten or school live within a short distance - You can walk or cycle to hobbies and a variety of different opportunities - Public transport is most likely accessible and frequent #citiesforkids

Lovely kindergarten bicycle parking in city of Espoo, Finland. We need small schools with small catchment areas, so they are not just 'walk to school' but also 'walk to friends' homes, parks w safe sidewalks, low max speed... #CitiesForKids are nice for all. Johanna Nyberg 8 80 Cities

We forget that kids don’t drive. Yet we complain about their dependence on us. “Kids these days!” We need to care, to give them back their independence & ability to take risks that don’t cost lives. We need walking & cycling infra with good design & maintenance. And transit.

What is your best, most memorable or nostalgic mode of transport from your childhood? This is mine! This is how I used to get to school every day during the winter! #OnlyInFinland ?

A few characteristics of a child friendly city: - Safe streets where kids can walk on their own - Unpolluted and clean environment - Sufficient space for meetings with friends and play - Green spaces for exploring the nature. Opportunities to plant own trees or flowers.

The cartoon in today’s newspaper highlights an important view in the traffic safety discussion. The media too often write ”Cars collided” instead of ”Drivers collided”, which shifts the focus of the person to the car as the cause of the collision. #roadsafety

In these days, streets and the urban environment have become even more important space for social interaction and meetings with friends. PS. Here we are on our way to set up a fire and have barbecue. In how many cities can you do this in the middle of the city? #MyHelsinki

Regardless of the weather or the amount of snow, it’s officially spring when you spot the first #citybike equipment waiting to be installed!

Taking a look at the local school yards gives an idea of the local transport culture. At this high school in #Kokkola, there are carefully planned and dedicated parking places for mopeds, moped cars and ATVs. #citiesforkids
