🚨New paper alert! In the first paper originating from my #PhD, James Herbert-Read, Dr Martin John How and I show that, unlike in fishes, dynamic visual noise from #causticflicker does not affect the hunting success and behaviour of #cuttlefish.🦑Read more here: doi.org/10.1016/j.anbe…

Had a great time yesterday listening to interesting talks and presenting my first poster at Dept of Zoology seminar day. Was very proud to win the poster competition with my work on #lionfish activity in response to ambient sound!

🚨 We are delighted to announce that our new paper is out TODAY in Current Biology 🚨 Here we provide the first direct evidence of how a predator - the trumpetfish - can use ANOTHER ANIMAL for concealment when hunting! 🔗 tinyurl.com/4p424mbx 🧵 Thread to find out more: (1/7)

Trumpetfish are often observed 'shadowing' another larger, typically less-threatening fish. This was long believed to allow trumpetfish to approach closer to their prey, such as damselfish, without being detected. So, we flew to Curaçao to test this hypothesis! 🇨🇼✈️(2/7) #CARMABI

To find out what these long thin trumpetfish were doing, Sam Matchette spent hours underwater pulling model fish along a wire. He discovered that they were using other fish as moving camouflage to hunt their prey. Dive in for the full story 👇 Dept of Zoology James Herbert-Read
