I honestly never thought I’d see a headline so stark and shocking

Personally, I have never felt at significant risk of experiencing severe acute COVID. For years now, *by far* my own main concern (aside from also caring about other peoples' health) has been the risk of long-term cognitive and/or physical effects for me or someone in my family.

Horrifying testimony. I was invited into an ICU for a few hours on one day to report and I still think about what I saw often. I cannot imagine what it was like for those working in that horror every single day.

There is a danger that message we could/want to take from this stark testimony is that we must never see these scenes again. I don’t think that’s possible and I don’t actually think that’s what the inquiry will find….

All our high consequence disease (and weaponised attack) planning involves massively difficult triage decisions and not enough ECMO, Ventilation etc. It involves staff there at the end. It may involve some family separation.
